Supreme Judicial Court– The Supreme Judicial court is responsible for making and approving court rules, providing advisory opinions to the government. It is the commonwealth’s highest appellate court.

Appeals Court– The Appeals Court receives cases on appeal from trial courts and tax agencies. It handles all types of criminal and civil matters with the exclusion of first-degree murder appeals, which go to the Supreme Judicial Court.
