If you or a loved one was injured in any number of different ways following a truck accident, contact the Cambridge truck accident experts at Altman & Altman LLP today to get started on a claim for damages.

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, there were 4,440 fatal incidents involving large trucks and buses in 2016, a 2 percent increase from 2015 and a 29 percent increase from 2009. In total, there was an estimated 119,000 injuries caused by large trucks in buses, which amounts to about 326 per day across the country. Suffice to say, truck accidents are common and can happen at any time.

How Were You Injured in a Truck Accident?

As with any type of injury, there are many ways in which a truck accident may happen. In trucking, there is far less margin for error than if the operator were in a regular motor vehicle, as trucks have much wider turn radiuses, are unable to stop as quickly as other vehicles and drivers have reduced visibility to see other pedestrians and motorists, especially in their blind spots.

Common truck accidents include, but are not limited to:

  • A truck driver cannot see a vehicle or pedestrian and doesn’t take proper steps to check for any obstructions and backs up into a car or pedestrian, causing injury
  • A truck driver is not paying attention to a sudden stoppage in the road and cannot stop in time, rear-ending a vehicle in front of them
  • A truck driver is under the influence of drugs or other mind-altering substances and can’t react in time to prevent an accident
  • A trucker is over-tired and falls asleep at the wheel, causing an accident
  • A trucker tries to take a turn that is too wide, and causes damage in doing so
  • A trucker tries to brake at high speeds too quickly, causing a terrifying jackknife incident

When trucks crash, the results can be terrible and deadly. Injuries can include severe head trauma, broken bones, paralysis, deep lacerations, comas and death. Such injuries can require extensive time in a hospital and necessitate significant physical therapy to fully recovery from. This can mean big hospital bills or suddenly dealing with the unexpected and untimely wrongly death of a loved one.
