of Mind When You
Need it Most.
Tearing your rotator cuff can result in serious pain and an inability to perform necessary work to make a living, and so we take these injuries very seriously at Altman & Altman LLP. Located in Boston and with offices elsewhere in Massachusetts, our firm will help assess your injury and ensure that you are able to collect disability or workers’ compensation if your injury was sustained while on the job.
The rotator cuff is actually comprised of four different muscles that allow our shoulders to perform motion, especially the motion of lifting – also known as abduction. The muscles are connected by tendons, and the most severe instances of torn rotator cuffs involve partially or completely tearing these tendons. However, tears to the muscles also may occur.
The severity of tearing your rotator cuff can vary widely, like most injuries, and can range from minor immobility in the shoulder that can be fixed by simply icing and resting the shoulder to a complete loss of function requiring surgical intervention to repair. However, regardless of severity, a torn rotator cuff can be devastating if you work in an industry where hard labor is an everyday part of your job responsibility, such as contracting work, roofing, carpentry or masonry work.
You can tear your rotator cuff in numerous ways. Tears can occur in healthy individuals through traumatic means such as a car accident or severe fall, where the individual lands on an outstretched arm and the force of the fall is mostly absorbed by the muscles in the shoulder. More commonly, rotator cuffs are torn in middle aged or older individuals as a cumulative result of lots of stress on the muscles and tendons over the years – think a professional mason who has lifted and placed heavy granite for decades, only to have his shoulder fail on him one day due to the continued wear and tear on his body.
Regardless of how the injuries occur, recovery can take a significant amount of time, especially if surgery is necessary, and can result in long periods of being unable to work. If the injury occurred while during the normal course of your job, you are entitled in Massachusetts to certain disability and workers’ compensation benefits to help absorb the financial loss of missing income from being unable to work.
If your company is hesitant to provide these benefits to you or try to claim that the injury did not occur on the clock, so they are not liable for paying these benefits, contact the law offices of Altman & Altman LLP immediately. We have over 50 years of experience fighting on behalf of our clients who are denied benefits they are entitled to in order to ensure they can pay their bills and continue living their lives.
If you were injured on the job, you are entitled to these benefits, and we will ensure you receive them in a timely and appropriate manner. If you were injured in a car accident due to a negligent driver or were injured due to some degree of negligence at work – perhaps you were overworked beyond a reasonable amount or weren’t given adequate equipment to assist in the job – then we can help file a claim on your behalf to possibly receive compensation for the damages you incurred as a result.
At Altman & Altman, we understand how frustrating and frightening an injury can be when you rely on your body to perform hard work to make a living. We take the time to work with each of our clients from Massachusetts and beyond to ensure that we understand their individual situation and craft a legal strategy best suited for their unique circumstances.
