Need it Most.
Suits against pharmaceutical companies have been on the rise in recent years. The competitive market incentivizes companies to take shortcuts. Unfortunately, the detrimental effect of this is injuries to those taking the drug. Belviq is a recent instance of the FDA recalling a defective drug. If you or a loved one has been injured after taking Belviq, contact us today for a free case review.
Belviq, Belviq XR, and the generic form, lorcaserin, is prescribed to patients who suffer from obesity and other weight related issues. The medication effectively suppresses their appetite enabling them to lose weight. Lorcaserin was approved by the FDA in 2012, but recent findings indicate that the medication may be dangerous, leading to a heightened risk of cancer. The FDA recalled the drug in January 2020. The manufacturer, Eisai, complied with the request and pulled the drug from the market. Unfortunately, for many who had already been taking the drug it was too late.
A five-year study identified alarming risks of the medication. It involved 12,000 patients, some of which were given lorcaserin and others a placebo pill. Initially the study set out to identify the risk of cardiovascular events associated with the drug. After several years, while no concerning risk of these events emerged, other risks presented themselves. The FDA found that the group that took lorcaserin had more instances of different types of cancer, including pancreatic cancer, colorectal cancer, and lung cancer.
Your health is always our primary concern. If you are currently taking Belviq, speak to your healthcare professional about your next steps. The FDA advises that you stop taking the drug and discuss alternatives weight-loss medications and weight management programs. Afterwards contact us to get your suit started.
If you took Belviq, Belviq XR, or another form of lorcaserin and you were diagnosed with cancer, reach out to us to take action against Eisai. You may also take action on behalf of a loved one who has suffered as a result of taking this drug. You may be owed compensation for past and future medical costs, pain and suffering, lost wages, lost earning capacity, funeral expenses, and any other costs associated with the injury.
When a pharmaceutical company fails to keep a defective drug off the market or fails to disclose of the risks associated with the drug, it may be held liable for patient’s injuries. We expect drug manufacturers to make their drugs as safe as possible, and if they cannot then to disclose of the risks associated with the drug. When drugs pose an unnecessary risk to you, you deserve compensation. Had the manufacturer done its job it would have at least warned of the risks associated with the drug and allowed the patients to make a fully informed decision. Perhaps the drug would have never been put on the market in the first place. Either way, your ability to make an educated decision about the drug was hijacked from you and you deserve to be compensated. You may be able to join a class action or initiate your own suit.
